Dr. Graham Leo

Organic Theologian

Dr. Graham Leo

Graham Leo is a writer, speaker, and educator based on the Gold Coast, Australia. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has worked as a school principal, theologian, university lecturer, hospital chaplain, and author of eight books.

He describes himself as an “organic theologian” — a concept drawn from Alister McGrath. Not a product of the ivory tower, but someone homegrown in faith communities who studies Scripture carefully and communicates its truth to others. Everything that humans do is God’s business — family, work, politics, sport, art — all of it is open to God-talk.

For 25 years, Graham served as Principal of two independent Christian schools in Queensland, including Emmanuel College on the Gold Coast — a multi-denominational K-12 school of over 1,700 students. Under his leadership, the school developed a distinctive culture rooted in Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

Graham holds a Doctor of Ministry from the Adelaide College of Divinity, a BA in Arts and Education, and a Master of Education. In 2007, he studied at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics at Wycliffe Hall under Alister McGrath. He is a Fellow of ISCAST (Christians in Science and Technology), a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a graduate of the Queensland Institute of Clinical Pastoral Education.

Since retiring from school leadership, Graham has served as Chaplain and Theologian-in-Residence at Monkton Combe School in Bath, UK, and as a hospital chaplain in the Anglican Church at Gold Coast University Hospital. He lectures in theology and literature at Christian Heritage College, Trinity College, and New Life Uniting College.

His writing spans novels, poetry, theology, education, and pastoral care — always returning to the conviction that good theology makes for good practice, while bad theology makes for bad practice.
